What's on the workbench ?

Well before I get to what’s on the bench, a bit about my work area.
We live in a duplex town-house in Johannesburg South Africa. The upper level has an enclosed balcony off the main bedroom which I have converted to a mini workshop. There is plenty of light, a big sliding window for all those glue and paint fumes, sufficient space (except when I am surrounded by wet washing!) and best of all a view of the river.

I do get bored watching paint and glue dry (even with the view of the river) so I tend to have 3 or 4 models on the go at once.

Before I give you a bit more info about what’s on the workbench at the moment, just a reminder to go to my Cars, Planes & Sci-Fi pages to see the models I have done so far. I love the construction part but am not so wild about the painting and detailing but I hey I try ….

Ok back to the bench …

 Tamiya - Williams FW 13B – Renault 1: 24 Scale
At the beginning of the 1989 season, F1 banned turbo charged engines, so Williams created the FW12C car with a V10 Renault engine. This model is a replica of the improved FW13B that they brought out in the later part of the season. Williams was 2nd in the constructors championship with this car in 1989
Progress
6/3/07 -Engine and gearbox section have been painted.

Hasegawa - Flying Pancake (XF5U-1) 1:72 Scale
Completed in 1944 this aircraft was the US Navy’s attempt at V/STOL sadly the Jet Age had arrived so this wonderful aircraft was never flown.
Progress
02/07-Built and spray painted but canopy is still masked – wheels are in the “up” position. I did this because I found a music shop? at Lakeside Mall that sells cool model aircraft stands.
6/3/07 - Painted the nose section which must get a clear canopy over it. I have done some of the basic weathering - doesn't look too bad. Weathering techniques do not seem to be one of my strong points - Decals will be next.

Revell-Monogram - Paddy Wagon 1:24 Scale
Customised and cool – kitted out to look like a hot-rod police van. I like the caption on the box it says: “makes you want to get busted- just so you can get a ride in it!
Progress
2/07-In the beginning stages. Glued the engine block but noticed it needs some putty work My putty is finished …need to make some time to get to the local model shop to restock but we know how dangerous that can be!!
6/3/07 - Got the putty ( and didn't buy anything else !) I have completed assembly and painted the engine and gearbox (red) - exhausts have been painted white - busy gluing the chrome exhaust covers and engine block cover. The chrome bits in this kit are really nice and shiny so I have decided not to re-paint so am working with them carefully so as not to cause any colour to come off during the fitting.

Dragon – USN F4 Wildcat 1: 72 Scale
This was an aircraft designed specifically for use on carriers as it had wings that folded back against the side of the fuselage in order to save space.
So I of course have to build mine with the wings swept back (otherwise what’s the point?) Well this turned out to be trickier then I expected and I struggled for day to get them in the right position – but finally got there I think.
Progress
2/07- Built and spray painted but canopy is still masked – no wheels or decals yet.
6/3/07 - I have put the wheels on and made a bit of a mess of the weathering (surprise surprise)....might have to get creative with this one and build it into a diorama ... this one has been a bit of a nemisis .....mmmm
